In October 1980, Maharishi convened an historic Assembly on Vedic Science, in New Delhi, India, attended by India’s leading Vedic scholars and 3,000 Sidhas and Meditators from all over the world.
Just prior to the assembly, while he was at his international headquarters in Seelisberg, Switzerland, Maharishi recorded a special course introducing the fundamentals of his Vedic Science.
This course has been remastered from the original recordings by the MERU international course development team and is now being made available for the first time. Dr Peter Warburton – Raja Peter – will present the course and lead the discussions.
Maharishi explains in these talks the critical need for Vedic Science and why he felt compelled to bring it to the world:
“Something that should not happen in nature seems to be happening a lot. Life is there to be lived. It’s a shame that life has started to be lived for death. And when such things begin to happen, it is the display of weak creativity – when the fear comes and the intelligence becomes unintelligent.
“It is given to the able men, wise men on earth, who can create that influence from that level which can reconstruct life for its progressive values. … So, the purpose of going deep into the science of nature, into the mechanics of how nature functions – the whole purpose is to redress the violent tendencies and unfavourable tendencies for life in the world consciousness. …
“Something that should not happen in nature seems to be happening a lot. Life is there to be lived. It’s a shame that life has started to be lived for death. … And when such things begin to happen, it is the display of weak creativity – when the fear comes and the intelligence becomes unintelligent.
“So, Vedic science would just mean the study of that basic structure of intelligence which is present everywhere and maintaining order in all processes of creation and evolution. So, our efforts will be to have human intelligence fathom that reality of all possibilities and thereby reconstruct the trends of life on earth so that life is lived in wisdom, not in ignorance. Not like a child – anywhere it will run, against anything it will break its head – but everywhere, every step, in a sensible way.”
And Maharishi explains that the simplest form of awareness is the key:
“The emphasis in Vedic science – the science of knowledge – the emphasis is on simplest form of awareness. … Everything in manifestation, everything in the manifest field, has that simplest form of awareness at its basis. … If that common source of all creation opens to our awareness, then our awareness becomes the common source of all creation.
“This is the story of pure knowledge, the Veda. This is science of pure knowledge – what it is in its pure state, how it can be translated into anything. This science of knowledge makes the scientist infinitely capable, enlivens in his intelligence all possibilities – all possibilities enlivened in one stroke.”
“If any soul from anywhere in the universe happens to be so fortunate as to be born on our earth, then we shall have this education for him, so that as he grows he is able to represent in the universe that infinite organizing power of nature.” – Maharishi, 1 October 1980
Main themes of the course in Maharishi’s own words
A systematic and complete path of study of the laws of nature in one’s own awareness: Gaining the knowledge through which nature creates the whole orderly universe and applying it to create coherence and harmony in society.
“Vedic cognition – that is our target. And that, our target, we want to make it simple and achievable by anyone. If any soul from anywhere in the universe happens to be so fortunate as to be born on our earth, then we shall have this education for him, so that as he grows he is able to represent in the universe that infinite organizing power of nature.” – Maharishi, 1 Oct 1980
“It has been a rare privilege to have had Dr Warburton recount how Maharishi shared his deepest knowledge of all, and to go into it at leisure and in detail. The course provided an intuitively warming insight into Maharishi’s own consciousness, and how his unique exposition of the finest fabrics of reality emerged from that ultimately refined and expansive awareness, and in all simplicity.” – C.C.
“The revelation has come, not, in my case, on the level of the intellect, but it has come to a far deeper place of all knowingness beyond the intellect. Now, I feel I/we have been given the Lamp at the Door with which we may see the internal and the eternal reality – the Totality, Brahm.” – B.A.
“The lessons dive into such deep, abstract concepts that I find myself floating at a subtle level, just letting the knowledge wash over me and absorbing it to some degree intellectually and to some degree more by osmosis. Raja Peter’s depth of comprehension of all of Maharishi’s knowledge allows him to make so many of the concepts that I have heard over the years more clear and understandable. I find that very fulfilling.” – S.M.
“They say the mark of a good teacher is the ability to distil a vast amount of knowledge and make it accessible for beginners. Raja Peter is a master teacher! (I was astonished that he could make the 10 Brahms comprehensible in less than 45 minutes.).” – S.R.
“This course lives up to its name!! With a thorough grounding in the full Total Knowledge spectrum, Raja Peter zooms us into the very inner sanctum of Maharishi’s deepest commentary on the Total Knowledge charts he created, and reveals the secret, even finer fabrics of ourselves and our unity with All That There Is, manifest and the unmanifest from which it springs.” – C.B.
